''What Power Does the NCA have to Block Our SIMs'', Shugah Mawuli Anthonio Angrily Speaks

An enthusiastic Communication Officer Hopeful for Anlo Constituency, Shugah Mawuli Anthonio is very angry and heartbroken with the cruel decision taken by some selected leaders and institutions responsible for this SIM Card Re-registration agenda which most Ghanaian are equally unhappy with but are unfortunately voiceless about it.

He says, ''When the first gentleman of the land His Excellency, William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cum Hon. Ursula Owusu wanted power, they did everything in their jurisdiction to register almost everyone in their Constituencies who were of age to exercise their franchise.''

He further asked , Why same priority not given to the process of Ghana Card and SIM registration to avoid this kind of brouhaha of SIM being barred and blocked?

''You see the kind of rulers parading themselves as leaders? What hidden agenda does the New Patriotic Party have, moving forward in that regard, punishing the tax payers this way?''

Has the National Identification Authority done its work by issuing card to all deserving citizens? If no, what power does the National Communication Authority have to block people's SIM? Why not extend it to mobile money? Your guess is as right as mine.''

He could not fathom why, If 16 million cards were printed, 15 million was issued, the rest not issued till now and out of that, some have issues of Wrong date of birth, spelling mistakes of names among numerous errors. 2.7 million qualified to register, but yet to be registered according to NIA.

''Do we blame the bearers of such cards or those yet to register, What kind of lawlessness is this? Who arrogated such powers to them since there is no law backing this act? Is government aware that we are losing revenue? What happens to see something, say something campaign since you are blocking the whistle blowers?''

Mr. Shugah adviced the NPP administration led by the "men" should go to our neighbouring country Nigeria to learn how they are doing theirs and stop this kind of arrogance.

He continue to say his common sense is failing to comprehend why his telephone number was a requirement for the Ghana card, but today his Ghana card is a guarantee to acquiring the same SIM card.

''For God's sake, Ghanaians are hustling to survive so if those in charge of the re-registration brouhaha have silver spoon in their mouth, they should let us be. We should continue our hustle than waste our precious time queuing for their parochial interest. Ghana belongs to all of us not for the few to infringe upon the liberty of others. Frankly, Ghanaian youths are not angry enough that is why we are marking time.''

Mr. Mawuli stated, he is not against linking Ghana card to various SIM cards to curb scam or fraud but the timing is so limited. Secondly, he did not dispute the fact that, there are "stubborn academy" in the system as the Communication Minister made mention of.

''Nonetheless, why not allow the Telcos retrieve our details from NIA since both involve almost same process?''

''Leadership is not all about sloganeering breaking the eight(8) so be informed that, Ghanaians are more discerning than ever, and would reward our efforts according to your performance. The scheming and eagerness to hook onto power come 2024 is glaring but the masses are singing and clapping for how abysmally you have performed in the past years.''

Mr. Shugah Mawuli Anthonio entreats every sector to work, effectively communicate between the various ministries, stakeholders, Telcos and the citizenry at large to play a major role. The flow of information and dissemination must be given ample time to reach the final consumer for a proper feedback. As a communication ministry, I expected more than just giving commands.

Finally, he propose there should be another extension of the deadline.
