The Story of the First Water Well on Anlo Land that still Exist over 400 years ago

Anlo State is one of the oldest State in Ghana which is surrounded by many stories concerning their migration from Notsie in Togo to their present location , Ghana.In this article , I will enlighten you on the first water well built by the Leader of the Anlos , Torgbui Wenya on their journey to their present location which is Ghana.

When Anlos escaped from the treatments of Torgbui Agorkoli , the King of Notsie in Togo, they journeyed along the coast. The passed through different towns on the way. Torgbui Wenya been one of the most powerful man by then , performed many oracles on the way. On the way , He is the one who plant maize and harvest that same day for them to eat and get more energy for the journey.In absent of any ready available drinking water, When they reach, a town called Tegbi, also along the coast, with his hand , constructed a water well where they fetched water and drunk.

This well though is not built by cement, still exist over 400years now. Sources revealed the height is not exactly known but anyone who enters will be drawn due to its deepness.It is miraculously covered by some special grasses that is not found at anywhere else. The water is considered sacred and is used in pouring Libation during Hogbetsotso Festival Festivities. The place is considered sacred, for that matter , no woman in her menses is allowed to go nearer to the water. Today it serves as a Tourist attraction for anyone who wish to know more about Anlo's history.
